Some Family Photos

nb house
This is the home of Nathaniel B. Smithson (photo courtesy of Ronny Mangrum, current resident/owner). It was built in approximately 1835, in Peytonsville, TN, on what was then known as Hurricane Creek (currently known as Starne's Creek, or Peytonsville Creek). Peytonsville is just outside Franklin. N.B. Smithson was my great, great, great-grandfather. Nathaniel's father John was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, his oldest son, Samuel Cheatham Smithson was my g-g-grandfather. Samuel married Matilda Secrest, daughter of John Secrest, a Revolutionary War soldier.

Same house, but during winter. This was taken New Year's Eve, 2000.

N B Smithson house in winter
Their son, Nathaniel Greene Smithson was my great-grandfather. Nathaniel Greene Smithson married Sarah Alice Hatcher. This photograph is of them and some of their children. My grandfather, Elmer Early Hatcher Smithson, is standing behind his father and sister. Nathaniel died while Sarah was young. She never remarried, instead, she lived with her children, and moved with them when they left Tennessee for Montana, then eventually moved to California. Nathaniel & family

The photograph of the lone gentleman is John Rucker Hatcher, Sarah's father. He died of cholera when he was 45.
